No secret deals
Switzerland wants to legalise secret discounts on medicine prices and exclude them from the Law on Transparency. This will make it impossible to find out the actual net price taken on by health insurers. By doing so, Switzerland breaches its international commitments and sets a dangerous policy precedent that will further strengthen the power of pharma companies in imposing abusive margins. Switzerland should be doing the opposite – increasing levels of transparency and negotiating with a firm hand to stem the ongoing increase in the price of new medicines, such as cancer treatments.
