Report: Swiss traders’ opaque deals in Nigeria
4. November 2013
Each year Nigeria loses billions of dollars through oil sale far below the market price, or because of Nigerian subsidies for the import of refined petroleum products.
Between 2009 and 2011 oil trading companies received around $ 6.8 billion dollars state support from Nigeria. The Nigerian authorities are now investigating, and they have now asked Switzerland for judicial assistance. In its new report, the BD shows how Swiss commodities traders profit from the gouvernemental problems in Nigeria, and how these practices are part of the problem, and thus influence the development of the country.
